Fergie Confident Ferdinand Will Survive at MU
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, still require the services of Rio Ferdinand. He also believes the 34-year defender will stay at the club and signed a contract extension.

Ferdinand at Manchester United contract expires at the end of this season. Meanwhile, Manchester United have a new policy of only offering short-term contracts to players over the age of 30 years.

Though no longer young Ferdinand, Ferguson considers his players still have an important role in the team. If it can continue to perform like this season, Ferdinand believes he can play a few more years.

"Rio had a good season. I do not think there is a reason why he will not survive," said Ferguson on Sky Sports.

"We gave the players a year contract, there's nothing wrong with it. I do not think the players with the reputation and capabilities such as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand should be concerned with the one-year contract," he added.

"That's not to say that we doubt them in terms of continuity. When players enter the age of 30, it's natural. You never know how they will face an aging age. Some can, some do not. Behind the players can do it if they maintain themselves, "said Fergie.

"That does not apply to all positions, but especially the defenders, because they do not run as far as midfielder or winger," he said.
